Blanche Martin of Mt. Zion church was a great encourager for me. She was always a lady in kindness; thoughtfulness; a ready hostess to open her home to church meetings and United Methodist Women meetings. She was a perfect hostess; Grandma complete with an apron to be removed to be instantly ready to receive company. She could also make the most delicious cherry pies with piecrust I have never been able to match.
Blanche saw possibilities for me that I did not see. She encouraged me to take leadership positions in the United Methodist Women at Mt. Zion, which offered me opportunities for further training and spiritual growth opportunities outside the local church.
Blanche also invited me to join a book review group, called the Quest Club, where I cherish those friendships still today and continue to be introduced to new topics and author's views.
We can thank Blanche and Ross Martin and others of their generation for the traditions of Mt. Zion being the friendly, caring congregation that it is today. I am truly thankful for their example to our young family at that time.
